Deontae Cooper Update from Coach Sark

08/09/12 By Think Tank Productions

“I am saddened and dismayed to report that Deontae Cooper has torn the ACL in his right knee while participating in a non-contact drill during practice. Deontae has done everything we have asked of him, and has been an example to his teammates with his hard work in the classroom, and the dedication he showed in returning from two previous ACL surgeries in his left knee. Our football program will do everything we can to support him in this tough time.” -Coach Sark

So sad, I feel horrible for this young man…

Just brutal…. Worst case scenario is still a degree from a great school and relationships with a team that will last a lifetime regardless of the injuries. Best wishes.

My heart goes out to Deontae. He deserves better than to go through this again. Hope for a speedy recovery and a positive attitude. We got your back man!

This is truly heartbreaking, Coop you are in the thoughts and prayers of Husky Nation and you will always be a DAWG No matter what you decide. The heart and perseverance you have already shown has been an inspiration I wish you the best in anything you do. GO DAWGS

I couldn’t hurt for any player more than this…..so saddened for Deontae and the Dawgs. What a fine young man with incredible heart and talent. You were a great pleasure to watch run the football in the few times I saw you play. I will be in prayer for you Deontae…..hang in there man.

I saw a link to this, I thought it was a joke, or a link to an old article about the previous injuries. This is JUST AWFUL!!! I know all Husky fans’ hearts go out to this, by all accounts, hardworking and outstanding young man. I am stumbling to find words, what a terrible shame. Hang in there, kid. God bless.

Coop-your legacy at UW sets a new standard. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance has reminded all of us what it means to be a Husky. I could not be more sick to my stomach for you but I know that your future, whatever it may be, will be filled with honor and success. The 2012 season will not be the same without you. Go Dawgs.

Coop, it’s heartbreaking what happened man. I tore ligaments in my knee when I was playing football, and it was honestly the worst time of my life. To see how well you bounced back from your two previous injuries is the definition of perseverance, and is very inspiring. Just know that all of HuskyNation is supporting you, backing you, and ready to provide anything that you need to get back. Stay tough and keep fighting, and you’ll be a success in every facet of life. Best wishes man.

Feel so bad or this kid. He sounds like a great kid and hard worker. On a positive note, this will give his left knee another year to heal and strengthen and with hard work and prayers, his right knee will be ready to fly by this time next year!

Deep thoughts and hopes for Deontae to recover fully and follow what his heart desires in life. He’s a patient guy that we could all learn a thing or two from.

On the day you committed, I watched your YouTube highlights in awe. During your first uw practices, I saw you in person rip off long td runs on a daily basis. I knew you were destined for greatness. You’re still destined for greatness.

Reading the news late last night was heartbreaking. It’s hard to believe that I followed this player so closely given that he’s never played a down for the Huskies. Given everything that he’s had to endure over the last few years along with his tremendous attitude and work ethic, you wanted to see him live out his dream of playing competitive football again. I won’t pretend to know what type of person he was but given how highly his coaches, teammates, and media spoke of him, it was pretty clear that this guy was a special person (not just a special football player). Deontae, I hope you read my comment and all other comments from your fans out there. You are and will continue to be an inspiration for me with the positive attitude and perseverance that you display. Keep your head up (as I know you will) as great things are headed your way. Wishing you the best on a speedy recovery.

Coop, I know I speak for all of us at Citrus when I say we love you! You are so amazing, both on and off the field. I will be praying for you, Sweetie. You are a role-model for so many. Keep your head up!

Ouch. Awful luck. Even as a Trojan fan there’s nothing satisfying about a story like this. Kid deserves to catch a break. Fight back and Fight On Deontae.
